On October 18th in downtown NYC, EKM Vocal Studio is hosting its very first in-person, day-long workshop — an immersive experience designed to help singers unlock their potential, strengthen their technique, and bring their artistry to the next level.

with Emily Kristen Morris
What do Chappell Roan, Bruno Mars, Cythia Erivo, and Ben Platt have in common? They can BELT! Learn how to develop a powerful and exciting belt (and yes, mix-belt), while maintaining healthy vocal technique. Class will begin with a belt-focused group warm-up. Then we will dive into a presentation all about belting: common misconceptions countered with truths about what belting is and what it is not, the intricacies of mix-belting, how belting should feel, the relationship between vocal balance and style, and what steps YOU can take to build a belt that is powerful, reliable, and all your own. From there we will do one-on-one song coachings with individual singers, and then a group Q&A at the end.

Join Broadway’s beloved Julie Benko for an intimate masterclass focused on transforming your musical theater performance from technically sound to truly unforgettable. In this dynamic session, we will explore how to connect authentically with our material, own the audition room, shed self-conscious habits, communicate effectively with an accompanist, and embrace vulnerability, humor, and spontaneity. Whether you're prepping for auditions or looking to deepen your artistry, this is a chance to rediscover the joy of the process and bring your full self to every note. mixing masterclass
with Dan Faber
In this class, we will dive into the MIX! The Mix, or Mixed Voice, is a newer term in vocal pedagogy, and can often be a bit confusing. But we think it's really quite simple! Let's demystify the mix, and get you on your way to improved vocal technique by discovering, applying, and improving YOUR mixing abilities. We will get into the answers to some key questions: What actually IS a mix? How does one access their mix? What are some exercises and tools you can use to improve your mix? What is mix-belt? Is mix a register, style, technique, or coordination? If you have questions about the elusive mixed voice - this is the class for you! We will begin with a mix-focused warm up, then a brief presentation and group discussion, then live singing demonstrations working one-on-one on song cuts, and finally a group Q&A!
vocal health masterclass
with Gabi Leibowitz
What does it really mean to be a vocal athlete? How do you build a voice that is reliable, healthy, and strong? Oh, and do you actually need that vocal cool down, throat coat tea, nebulizer, or cough drops? This interactive master class is all about learning by doing: we’ll dive into singer-friendly anatomy and physiology, bust some of the biggest vocal health myths, learn vocal massage techniques, and demystify SOVTs (semi-occluded vocal tract exercises) while trying them out together. You’ll be led through an efficient warm-up, practice self-care tools like laryngeal massage and tongue stretches, and build a personalized set of strategies you can use immediately. We’ll wrap with a cooldown designed to leave your voice flexible, resilient, and energized. You’ll be walking away with a new vocal health toolbox!

Q: What level of singer is this for? This workshop is designed for ALL levels of singers ages 15 and up. If you would like to sign up for a Singer Slot, and work one-on-one during the workshop, you need to be at least an intermediate singer with 4+ years of experience in private voice lessons or performance! Any experience level students are welcome to observe and attend the livestream.
Q: if i buy a singer slot what should i prepare? Please prepare a 1-1.5 minute cut of a song you find challenging, and would like to work on. You will be selected by our team on which teacher you will work with.
Q: if i buy an observer ticket will i get to participate? You will get to participate in group warm ups and exercises, by asking questions in the Q&A, viewing presentations during lectures, and of course you'll get to observe the singers as they do their one-on-one coachings with our teachers!
Q: will i get to work one-on-one with emily or the other teachers? Yes, if you sign up for a singer slot you will get to work your song cut with either Emily, Dan or our special guest Julie Benko in one of the masterclasses! We will determine which class you sing in based off your form answers when you book your slot. Also, if you're joining us in person for this day-long event, there is an additional opportunity to book an in person lesson with Emily or another associate teacher as an add-on that evening.
Q: So, how do I schedule a private lesson for that day as well? We would love to work with you privately! There is an option to add on an in-person lesson with some of our EKM teachers (yes, Emily too!) during the second half of the day. From 4pm-6:30, we will be offering private lessons in smaller rooms. Lessons are 30 minutes long, and only available for those who took the day-long masterclass. Sign ups are first come first serve, at an additional charge.
Q: WHO can sign up for an add-on private lesson? Anyone with an in-person ticket (singer or observer) will be able to sign up for a private lesson with Emily, Dan or Gabi. Space is limited and first come first serve, so we recommend booking your private in-person lesson as soon as you book your workshop ticket!
Q: what is the address and time of this class & will there be breaks?The event will take place from10am to 3:30pm EST on October18th at a studio space in downtown NYC. You'll be sent the exact location after booking. There will be a 45 minute lunch break and food will not be provided so we recommend you bring your own lunch, or make a plan to grab something quick in the area!
Q: do i have to be based in nyc? You are more than welcome to travel into NYC for this opportunity! However, if you are not based in NYC you are welcome to join us on Zoom for Livestream access of the entire day.
Q: if i sign up for livestream access will i get to sing?
Livestream access will include observing the entire workshop day. Only students in person with us will be participating as singers.
Q: if i sign up for livestream, will i get access to the recording at a later time? Livestream access will only be LIVE, and you will not able to be access it at a different time. However, we are hoping to have a professional recording done of the entire day for purchase in the future. Stay tuned!
