Premier Vocal Instructor, Singer, Actress, Content Creator, & Founder of EKM Studios
Hello singers! I’m so glad you’re here.
My name is Emily Kristen Morris, and I am the founder of EKM Vocal Studio! Along with teaching lessons, masterclasses, and workshops to passionate singers around the world, I am also a professional musical theatre performer, online content creator (@singwithemily on TikTok), and dog mom!
My goal as a teacher is to help you discover your own unique voice through a foundation of healthy vocal technique, so that you can sing any style of music with freedom and ease.
I want to ensure that you, as my student, feel like your voice is YOURS, and what makes you vocally unique and "different" is celebrated! At the same time, I will set you up with healthy vocal regiments and tools, and help you develop a reliable, balanced voice that you can depend upon. Once you have that, you’ll have the freedom to express yourself through song without the fear or strain, cracks, or breaks.
I have a background in musical theatre, but I also love teaching pop, rock, folk, jazz, and R&B. I especially love teaching singers how to mix, AKA blend their low, middle, and high registers to find one balanced and connected voice. I teach lessons to intermediate and advanced singers ages 14+. All are welcome to join my masterclasses.
Through my training at the Institute for Vocal Advancement and the University of Cincinnati; College-Conservatory of Music, my 10+ years of professional performing experience, and my insightful, nurturing and positive approach to learning, I am an ideal teacher for singers serious about improving their voice!
Born and raised in the heart of San Francisco, Emily first began her vocal studies with Broadway and opera star Richard Nickol. Richard instilled in Emily a healthy vocal technique and a budding love for musical theatre. Emily performed in her first musical when she was eleven years old at her local children’s theatre, and soon after began auditioning and performing professionally in the Bay Area theatre scene.
Emily went on to receive her BFA in Musical Theatre from the prestigious University of Cincinnati; College-Conservatory of Music, where she studied with world-class teachers, performed in shows, and began discovering the kind of artist she wanted to be! After graduating, Emily moved to NYC to pursue her career.
Emily has performed professionally across the nation and internationally. Some of her favorite theatre roles include Bea in Something Rotten (Broadway National Tour), Nellie Forbush in South Pacific, and Sophie in Mamma Mia. Emily has performed as a solo vocalist with symphony orchestras, including the Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra in China, and the Norwalk Symphony in CT. Her voice is also featured on Joey Contreras’ new album “In Pieces.”
From an early age Emily always knew that one day she wanted to study vocal pedagogy and eventually teach voice. In 2018, Emily’s voice teacher and mentor Chelsea Wilson inspired her to begin studying with the Institute for Vocal Advancement. Soon after, EKM Vocal Studio was established!
Since 2018 the studio has grown exponentially, and Emily has become a world-renowned vocal instructor in her own right! She teaches lessons, masterclasses, and workshops to passionate singers around the globe, both virtually and in-person in New York City. Emily is also a popular content creator: she offers vocal tips and tricks on her TikTok @singwithemily, where she has 300k+ followers, and 6 million+ likes.
My name is Jennifer Smith, I am a professional voice teacher, audition coach, musical theatre performer, and hype woman located in NYC. I love helping singers express their most authentic selves through song as a means of self-expression and meditation, through all genres of music, including musical theatre, jazz, pop, rock, country, and folk!
Need help developing your mix belt? Looking to build your range in your head or chest voice? Let’s work together on strengthening new parts of your voice, developing healthy habits, and making sure singing feels like the fun, freeing experience it should be! I teach connection and balance at the basis of everything and would love to help you build or strengthen a strong vocal foundation.
For musical theatre performers, I also offer audition coachings (focusing on storytelling through song), and help with finding new rep that is fresh, less known, and shows off the best version of you.
My favorite part of teaching is helping singers do things they didn't think they were capable of doing! It feels like showing up as Hagrid getting to tell Harry he's a wizard. But instead of breaking the news, I get to help students prove it to themselves.
You're a wizard! Let's do this.
Meet Jennifer Smith
Jennifer was most recently seen starring in the 1st National Tour of Bandstand as Julia Trojan. Other favorite credits include playing Portia in the National Tour of Something Rotten! (U.S. and South Korea), and Adam Lives at Goodspeed Opera House. She holds a BFA in Musical Theatre from the Boston Conservatory and is currently a Student Teacher at the prestigious Institute for Vocal Advancement. She is currently earning her Master's degree in Music Therapy at Montclair State University.
When she is not performing and teaching, Jenn loves to hang out with her Yorkie, Pebbles, Australian Shepard, Wilson, and her 25 lb cat, Earl. She loves vegan food, listening to Sammy Rae, being outside, reading, and finding the best pancakes in new cities.
My name is Sarah Bishop, and I am a professional singer, actor, dancer, musician and teaching artist who loves connecting with children, teens and adults through music and theater! Having grown up in the performing arts, I've noticed the importance of establishing a nurturing learning environment and have made it my mission to not only help student's grow their voice, but encourage them to truly feel seen, heard and free to express who they are.
Explore your authentic head, chest and mixed voice through styles including musical theater, pop, rock, folk and R&B! Interested in getting even more than just singing technique? With my extensive background and training in theater, I also offer acting through song: discovering text and finding the story. This makes my lessons your "two in one stop" if you are working on an audition piece, self tape, college application, callback or performance!
I am incredibly passionate about helping others connect to their healthiest, authentic voice, along with encouraging confidence, self worth and discovering their truest expression of self. After all, why would we want to pursue our dream if it makes us into something we are not? Whether my student is in high school, singing for fun, or an "auditioning" professional like myself, I believe in cultivating a safe and nurturing working environment, full of self-discovery and encouragement.
